ManoCap’s mission is to meet its development goals while investing in profitable businesses.
Why we invested
SEDF created the ManoCap Soros Fund in partnership with ManoCap, a Sierra Leonean private equity fund. Employment opportunities in Sierra Leone are scarce with over 67% of the population engaged in subsistence agriculture and annual GDP per capita of $234.35 Approximately 55% of these farmers are women and substantially all are subsistence farmers and/or are unemployed individuals. Agribusiness companies and entrepreneurs in Sierra Leone have long been ignored by the traditional capital markets and have been largely subsistence. By financing the agribusiness sector and pairing it with technical assistance, SEDF believes farm productivity, domestic and export sales and household income of smallholder farmers could be significantly increased while creating more jobs overall in the economy.
