Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium
The Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium is an $80.6 million microfinance investment fund managed by the Deutsche Bank Global Social Investments Group and formed by more than two dozen institutional investors and aid agencies. The Consortium is an innovative public-private partnership that invests in microfinance institutions (MFIs) that lend to the working poor throughout the developing world. Through direct loans, deposits, credit default swaps and other financial structures, the Consortium facilitates private, flexible financing to MFIs in local currencies.
Why we invested
The consortium was led by Deutsche Bank, a global financial institution with experience in microfinance and other social investment sectors, and brought together a group of private and public sector institutional investors and economic development agencies. Our investment helped expand and strengthen microfinance institutions globally by providing local currency financing to reduce foreign exchange risk.
